Maps of Manhattan, New York, NY, made after 1810 show a grid structure. The grid almost led to the eradication of the burrough's natural features. Two prominent eras of mapmaking preceeded the adoption of the grid, namely, the age of New Amsterdam from around 1610 to 1664 and the Revolutionary War period.
