The sales of casual footwear is beginning to outpace the sales of outdoor shoes as retailers notice that heavy marketing of casual office clothing is affecting their industry. Although shoe retailers and manufacturers have not marketed casual office shoes very extensively, casual brands such as Rockport, Clarks, and Dexter are selling better than in 1994, and sales of outdoors boots and shoes are down. Retailers believe that marketing will add to the sales even more.
