Students can gain a clearer view of the Vietnam War and its social consequences through novels. These may come in the form of combat narratives, accounts of families with one member who fought in the war, and experiences of the relatives of war veterans.

Many people regard America's participation in the Vietnam War as our most crucial national experience in modern times, one that continues to shape national policy and our attitudes toward others and ourselves.
