Rubber compounders have sought different methods to prevent reversion, the thermal degradations of crosslinks that usually occurs when compounds are overcured. One method used is to cure at lower temperatures but this process has limitations. The chemical Perkalink 900 (Pk900) has been successfully used to prevent reversion without changing the properties of compounds. Pk900 is effective because it remains inactive until polysulfidic crosslinks begin to revert.

A chemical for reversion resistant compounding. (Perkalink 900)
Rubber World ; Reversion of sulfur based crosslinks continues to be a problem for compounders. To date, no ideal solution has been found to address reversion. With each new solution, has come a compromise; better heat and reversion resistance is generated at the expense of productivity, processing safety and/or
Vulcanizing system improves reversion resistance.
Rubber & Plastics News ; Executive summary Reversion, the softening and weakening of natural rubber vulcanizates upon overcure, is greatly dependent upon curing conditions. The lower curing temperatures and longer curing times required to minimize reversion have an adverse effect on production rates. The magnitude of this
Optimizing tire compound reversion resistance without sacrificing performance characteristics.
Rubber World ; Reversion is the thermal degradation of sulfidic crosslinks leading to a reduction of crosslink density, a change in the distribution of crosslinks types and an introduction of mainchain modifications. It leads to a decline in compound physical properties such as modulus, tensile and elongation and
Cure systems to eliminate restricted substances in chlorinated polymers.
Rubber World ; Historically, several products have been used to crosslink chlorinated polymers that are now either restricted or soon to be prohibited for use by the automotive original equipment manufacturers. Compounds containing lead and cure systems based on thiourea dominate the existing literature as

Rubber World ; Cure system design Up to this point we have discussed the individual chemicals employed in vulcanization as well as postulated some mechanisms for effective crosslinking. This article will discuss the technology of combining curatives and accelerators to achieve desired performance properties
