Over the last century, Kai Tiaki has had 22 different editors, assistant editors or co-editors, none of them more influential than the journal's founder Hester Maclean, editor for 34 years. This timeline tracks some significant dates for Kai Tiaki, along with some milestones in our nursing history.

January 1908: Hester Maclean publishes the first quarterly issue of Koi Tiaki--The Journal of the Nurses of New Zealand. Subscription is four shillings a year.

1909: The New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association (NZTNA) is established, with Maclean as its first president.
