OCONOMOWOC -- Perish the thought that a spring could come along without hearing the sounds of frogs.

Kevin Zippel, program director of the Amphibian Ark in Auburn, New York, said that amphibians, which include frogs, toads, newts and salamanders, are now one of the greatest conservation challenges in the history of humanity.

Zippel voiced concerns over amphibian population declines and extinctions at the Wisconsin Wetlands Association 13th Annual Convention last Thursday.
