The Book of Jonah in the Old Testament shows that Jonah runs away from responsibility, reluctantly performs his mission and is disappointed when the evil-doers at Nineveh repented to appease God's wrath. Nevertheless, Jonah has been portrayed mainly in a positive light in rabbinic literature. Ten ways of viewing Jonah which were developed in rabbinic literature and tradition to emphasize the redemptive value of his story are presented.
