CHEMICALS : PERSISTENT ORGANIC POLLUTANT CONCENTRATIONS TO BE UPDATED.

The waste-related provisions in EU legislation relating to the concentration of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are to be updated. Two proposals for Regulations to this effect were recently presented by the European Commission. The aim is to make amendments to Annexes IV (COM(2006)242) and V (COM(2006)252) of Directive 79/117/EEC on waste matter and Regulation 850/2004 on POPs. The new annexes give details of the maximum permitted concentration for each waste type.
