It's important for people of different countries and cultures to talk to each other - and not just politicians, bureaucrats and government officials. They should talk about more than problems. It's good when ordinary people exchange ideas and day to day experiences with one another.
Even if people have the desire to 'talk to' each other, there are the barriers of distance, time and especially language. It is unusual for people (especially Americans!) to be fluent in more than one language.
