For anyone who was a young adult in the 1960s, the hookah may conjure up images of doing something slightly antisocial. Ironically, this water pipe from the Middle East is the epitome of sociability. It is meant to be shared in homes, restaurants and bars. The hookah's popularity is spreading beyond its origin in India and the Middle East. It is finding fans in unlikely places like Japan, England, Spain, Germany and Mexico. In the United States, tobacco retailers are also finding hot sales in hookahs.
