I couldn't help notice that his vocal phrasings--especially on the jazzy first song, "Forgive Me"--are a little like that other Bennett: Tony. On other songs, he sounds like James Taylor. He writes like Harry Chapin and Jim Croce, with every song a wonderful story, whether it's a wistful tale about baseball or an anthem about Rosa Parks. Damn, can this guy write. "Bandana Man" is about a chance meeting with a veteran at a gas station. Add a weepy pedal steel and dang, you'll need a bandana to wipe your eyes. There's a breezy pop feel ...
