Narrow escape from life-threatening danger is an uncommon experience for most Lane County residents, but there's at least one all-too-frequent exception: barely avoiding a collision with a red light runner.
Blasting through intersections after the light turns red could be an Olympic qualifying sport in Eugene, if there were gold medals for suicidal stupidity. It's the second most common moving violation in the city, accounting for about 2,000 citations a year.
