Analysis of responses to the 1991-92 Survey of Income and Program Participation show that 11,791 children 17 years or younger met the criteria that determined they were disabled. The 6- 14-year-old age group had the greatest number of disabled people, with 2,062, and those children less than three years old had the fewest with 254. The number of children considered for the survey was 66,135. The most common disability was a learning disability, with 29.5%, while only 6.3% of the disabled children suffered from emotional and mental disorders or problems.
