G. B. Edwards's fictional autobiography, The Book of Ebenezer Le Page (1981), is an intriguing but little-known novel. Although it was a popular commercial success on publication, it has received scant attention from literary scholars. One of the reasons for this neglect is that the book is hard to pigeon-hole and deals with a little-understood part of the British Isles, being set wholly on Guernsey between the 1890s and the 1960s.
