Background

The intermolecular carbonyl-ene reaction is a useful and completely atom-efficient C-C bond forming reaction. These reactions take place without a catalyst at relatively high temperatures ( > 150[degrees]C), but are more often carried out with either a stoichiometric or catalytic Lewis acid catalyst.
