A CHURCH which owes its origins to a 13th century "Slipper Chapel" at Rievaulx Abbey where travellers paused to pray, has been given a new lease of life - thanks to an English Heritage-backed repair project.
Work to re-roof the Grade II listed Church of St Mary, Rievaulx, near Helmsley, has been completed 100 years after it was built by the renowned architect Temple Moore, who enlarged the remains of the ruined medieval monastic chapel, adding a tower and chancel.
