IT WAS hard to imagine I could be in paradise after just a six hour plane ride from the cold and rainy UK.

But here I was, sipping a cocktail in a swanky hotel by a swimming pool, overlooking the deep blue sea.

The Gambia, or the smiling coast, is half the size of Wales and situated in a line along the River Gambia.

It is becoming an increasingly popular tourism destination because of its tropical climate and the fact there is no time difference - and that means no jet lag.
