WORLD WAR Il began for me more than a year before Pearl Harbor. I was beginning my senior year at Union Theological Seminary in New York City when the first-time-ever peacetime military conscription went into effect and every American male of age was required to register. I was just 24 and looked forward to a fife in the Christian ministry, for I was ordained in the Methodist Church and was a member of the then Colorado Annual Conference.
