The name is Coltrane. He plays tenor saxophone.

Does it ring a bell?

For jazz fans, it jumps right out: John Coltrane, the gifted musician who was raised in Philadelphia and began an illustrious career here that concluded with his death in 1967.

But it didn't end there. Now the family tradition is being quietly carried on by his son, Ravi Coltrane.

Ravi Coltrane _ whose mother is jazz pianist Alice Coltrane _ was not eager to assume this role. He was only 2 years old when his father died, and grew up knowing little about his dad or his music.
