ON SEPTEMBER 26, 2007, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released experimental measures of gross domestic product (GDP) by metropolitan area. GDP by metropolitan area is a measure of the market value of final goods and services produced within a metropolitan area in a particular period. (1) These estimates complement BEA's ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive and consistent measures of economic activity.
