Fears fire station could lose full-time cover.

FIRE crews fear Oakham fire station could lose its full time staff following a review in Rutland and north Leicestershire.

The station has 28 whole time firefighters who provide 24-hour cover, as well as retained crews.

But union members fear it could be downgraded to a retained fire station relying entirely on part time on-call firefighters.

An independent review of nine stations is under way because a fully staffed station has opened in Birstall, Leicester. Oakham and Uppingham are both included in the review, which ends in March.
