Surgeons have divided a Sunderland girl's brain in two to save her from a rare disease.
From the age of seven, Janine Leach's life was plagued by epileptic fits, at one point having 100 seizures a day.
The youngster, of Farringdon, was 11 when doctors discovered she had a deadly disorder, Rasmussen's Encephalitis, eating away at her brain.
Experts said the only cure for Janine, now 15, was a high-risk operation, to cut away the diseased half of her brain, which could leave her permanently disabled.
