Art curators are increasingly concerned about the social ramifications of displaying art objects in the context of the social and ideological aspects of art. Thus, they strive to be aware of the new contexts that are created when exhibiting works from disparate historical periods as well as the accumulated contexts carried by the works themselves. For example, the works of Austrian artist Adolph Menzel have been classified variously as historypainting and the lesser category of historical genre.
