A group of architects and artists cited retail establishments, modernist designs and religious sites as their favorite buildings. For example, architect Michael Sorkin chose the modernist skyscrapers designed by Voorhees, Gmelin and Walker, while Rem Koolhaas preferred the classical bulk of the Pantheon in Rome. Artist Andrea Zittel was impressed at an early age by the generic styles of tract housing developments, while Philip Taafe admires the decorative and functional details of Ethiopian rock churches. Architect Steven Izenour likes the stores designed for Disney and Nike.
