Feminist theorizing has to segregate lesbians from heterosexual women and not lump them together into the single label of 'women.' This stems from the anti-essentialist, difference-sensitive context in which feminist studies are grounded, which fails to represent lesbian difference. Lesbianism can only be theorized within the feminist frame if feminism encompasses women and all the possible sexual orientations under the term 'third sex.'
