Last spring, a coyote led police on an overnight chase through New York City's Central Park before it was finally captured. In April 2007, a coyote wandered into a Quiznos store in Chicago and chilled out in a cooler until animal control removed it. Three years ago, there were 12 reports of coyotes roaming ritzy Beverly Hills, California.

As odd as it may seem, coyotes are showing up in cities with surprising frequency, abandoning their natural habitat for the comforts of city and suburban living. And, according to wildlife experts, ...
