YORKSHIRE'S cycling community was in mourning today after a popular biker - described as a "gentle giant" - was killed in a road smash while out measuring a race course on his bike.
Teacher Peter Smith, aged 54, was killed on Saturday after he was in collision with a white Ford Transit van on the A1 near Markham Moor in North Nottinghamshire.
He had been out measuring a course for a time trial race.
