Horses, rhinos and even a lone orang utan. Dr Izak Venter has given sight to them all - but what he had to perform on the operating table recently is probably a world first.
The doctor's patient on Wednesday was a young, nearly blind female porcupine, which had cataracts in both eyes.
The porcupine was rescued by the Free Me Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, and before the operation, the animal could probably make out only the difference between light and dark.
