Save the Vaal group calls for end to sewage spills.(News)

Residents and business owners on the banks of the Vaal River have threatened to sue government because of its alleged failure to stop sewage from spilling into the river.

So aggrieved are the residents that they have even threatened to report their plight to Fifa. This, they said, was because government was reneging on its undertaking to improve environmental health ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

"We demand that you resolve the problem by March next year, otherwise we will take you to court," Lotte Wepener, Save the Vaal chairman, told representatives of the ...
