Artist James McNeill Whistler drew fame in Europe and the US during the height of his career between 1859 to 1903. Whistler was influenced by the early works of the Impressionist movement as well as oriental prints. His works are being shown at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

As an expatriate American intent on making his mark on the European art world, James McNeill Whistler manipulated the art market with great determination (and varying degrees of success).
