A decade of remarkable growth: acquisitions by the Freer and Sackler Galleries: the Freer and Arthur M. Sackler Galleries in Washington, DC, contain one of the world's great collections of Asian art. The Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, opened its doors to the public in September 1923. It was the culmination of a gift to the nation initiated in 1906 by the Detroit industrialist and collector Charles Lang Freer (1854-1919).
