A GOVERNMENT Minister launched a libel action yesterday over allegations that he employed "gangs of Asian thugs" to ensure voters supported a Labour candidate in last year's local elections.
Shahid Malik, the Labour MP for Dewsbury, claims that a weekly newspaper and Tory candidate Jonathan Scott accused him of conducting a "military" campaign during the May 2006 local elections to get the Asian electorate to vote for their "Muslim brothers".
Mr Malik, who is a Minister for International Development, said he was libelled by a letter sent to the Dewsbury Press by Mr Scott ...
