Evaluation of the implementation of curriculum materials for civics in the Netherlands.

A study on the civics education of 12-to-16-year-old Dutch students at the lower-secondary level was conducted. The study focused on how particular curriculum packages on civics were used by teachers. Results showed that there was a highly significant gap between the operational and the ideal curriculum. Adaptation of the three packages deviated from the true intentions of the project, thereby limiting the impact of the curriculum materials. This demonstrated the fact that teachers will reshape planned curricula according to the practical needs of the students.
