Jerusalem in history: notes on the origins of the city and its tradition of tolerance.

The Israeli Ministry of Tourism and the Municipality of Jerusalem plans to celebrate the city's 3000th anniversary in 1996. However, many have criticized the celebrations, arguing that Jerusalem is about 5000 years old. Moreover, they noted that King David did not found Jerusalem but merely occupied it after driving away its original Arab inhabitants. A brief overview of Jerusalem's history is presented.
