CELEBRATIONS took place at a Scarborough church this weekend to mark the return of stained glass windows described as "a national treasure."

And parishioners are also thankful the cost has not been as great as was first feared.

The celebrations at the world-famous St Martin on the Hill on South Cliff not only marked the return of the windows but also the 100th anniversary of the death of famous Victorian architect George Frederick Bodley.

The church, which was one his first commissions, was designed in 1861 and built two years later.
