WHEN a Polish trawler limped into the port of Swinoujscie last week for "emergency repairs", the nostrils of Polish customs men smelt something fishier than fish. Under several tonnes of rotten herring lay $60m-worth of hashish. Four days later, a little way along the Baltic shore, a rusty Greek freigh-ter chugged into Gdansk. This time the customs men sniffed out some waterproof sacks hanging in the water beneath the keel: 217 kilos (480lb) of Colom-bian cocaine, worth $32m.
