The Futurist movement in Europe advocated a liberal conceptualization of fashion in which the human body would be dressed functionally and not confined by unnecessary pieces of clothing. The futurists published their ideas on clothing in three manifestoes that included patterns for mens' suits and discussions on the need for freedom of movement that should be integrated into clothing. The patterns were characterized by brightly-colored abstract patterns that exhibited their optimism in future progress.
