The Rodentia order is the single-largest group of mammals, with about 1,500 species. While some rodents such as hamsters and guinea pigs often are beloved family pets, pest management professionals (PMPs) mostly deal with a few species of often-unwelcome rodents: the white rat, Norway rat, roof rat and the house mouse.

While dealing with rodent problems can be difficult, rodents can be controlled with well-planned integrated pest management (IPM) strategies. They deserve and demand vigilance by both PMPs and property owners/managers.
