HARROGATE golf ace John Parry impressed in a dramatic Walker Cup, but despite a late fightback the Great Britain and Ireland team could only watch as the USA clinched the extra point needed for an outright victory in the final series of singles matches.

Captain Colin Dalgleish termed the defeat 'painful', as his side endured their first home loss since 1991.

The final scores at Royal County Down on Sunday were USA 12 1/2 - Great Britain and Ireland 11 1/2.

Parry could not repeat his first-day heroics after being restricted to the foursomes yet again.
