Insomnia is a common sleep disorder in the general population and in patients with cancer (Ohayon, 2002; Yellen & Dyonzak, 1996). Women are predisposed to develop insomnia (Zhang & Wing, 2006), and survivors of breast cancer may be particularly vulnerable to sleep difficulty such as trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Women with breast cancer have almost twice the prevalence rate of insomnia compared to the general population (Savard, Simard, Blanchet, Ivers, & Morin, 2001).
