LITTLETON -- Rowana E. Wofford picked her future husband as her pen pal, sort of.

Their first encounter was memorable but not very romantic when both were college students.

"The smart kids were doing a lab one day. They finished early and came to the end of the lab where we dummies were doing titrations," said her husband, Chester Wofford, of Littleton.

Mrs. Wofford was among the smart students.

"She stuck me with a pen," he said. "Somebody dared her to."

He wasn't pleased and said so.
