A 42% increase in baking ingredient introductions was noted in 1994, as 544 new products were launched in the market during the year compared with 383 in 1993. Much of the increase came in mixes, with fillings and frostings lagging behind. The top three mix manufacturers, namely Pillsbury, General Mills and Procter & Gamble, launched a total of 54 new mixes. The year also saw the debut of new ethnic or regional baking mixes such as Aron Streit's Kosher cake mixes.
