Sep. 23--The place: a gym in Alliance Hall, a community center in downtown Allentown. The event: a song gathering for the Lehigh Valley Black African Heritage History Project. The leader: Ysaye Barnwell, an ethnomusicologist who sings with Sweet Honey in the Rock, the renowned African-American female a cappella quintet. The star of the moment: Deacon Clyde Bosket Sr., a semi-retired hairstylist ("Now I just cut") who sings as naturally as he breathes and tells stories as naturally as he sings.
