Tracking people is a means to an end, and trackers should be assessed in that way. Human trackers should be reasonably accurate, start automatically (hardly any practical application can use trackers that can't be started automatically), run for long times without any particular difficulties, and not rely excessively on implausible assumptions about background, etc. These are the correct criteria by which to judge.
In our opinion, the literature has, until quite recently...

The use of particle image velocimetry in the physical modeling of flow in electromagnetic or direct-chill casting of aluminum: Part I. Development of the physical model
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions
; This article describes the development of a physical (water) model for examining flows in the liquid metal pool, at the head of an electromagnetic (EM) or direct-chill (DC) caster for aluminum, that are driven by the inflow of liquid metal. Also described is a particle image velocimetry (PIV)

Product development and market expansion: a real options model.(Report)
Financial Management
; We create a model that values complementary and substitute products with potentially correlated revenues, which must be developed sequentially. The model also incorporates the effects of changing market conditions. We find that the value of a combined project increases in correlation, but the

General model for biological nutrient removal activated-sludge systems: Model application
Water Environment Research
; ABSTRACT: The application of a general model for nitrification denitrification biological excess phosphorus removal (NDBEPR) activated-sludge systems is demonstrated. Results of simulations show the model is capable of predicting sludge production and oxygen use for a range of system types and

Ecophys.Fish: A Simulation Model of Fish Growth in Time-Varying Environmental Regimes
Reviews in Fisheries Science
; Ecophys.Fish is a deterministic STELLA model for simulating rates of fish growth in environmental regimes that have simultaneous temporal variation in food, oxygen, temperature, pH, and salinity. The purpose of this article is to introduce Ecophys.Fish to those who might want to use it as a

A transient simulation and dynamic spray cooling control model for continuous steel casting
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions
; A two-dimensional heat-transfer model for transient simulation and control of a continuous steel slab caster is presented. Slab temperature and solidification are computed by the model as a function of time-varying casting speed, secondary spray cooling water flow rates and temperature, slab

Toward a Next Generation Data Modeling Facility: Neither the Entity-Relationship Model nor UML Meet the Need
Journal of Information Systems Education
; ABSTRACT In this article, we define five purposes of a data model and describe a typical data modeling problem. We then evaluate the Entity-Relationship and Unified Modeling Language data models against those five purposes in the context of the example problem. We find severe limitations with both

Development of a Heterogeneous Microstructurally Based Finite Element Model for the Prediction of Forming Limit Diagram for Sheet Material
Metallurgical and Materials Transactions
; A heterogeneous finite element model with randomly distributed inhomogeneities has been developed for the determination of the forming limit diagram (FLD) for thin aluminum sheet material based on the prediction of localized necking. The strength difference between the inhomogeneities and the

Assessment of the land surface and boundary layer models in two operational versions of the NCEP Eta Model using FIFE data
Monthly Weather Review
; ABSTRACT Data from the 1987 summer FIFE experiment for four pairs of days are compared with corresponding 48-h forecasts from two different versions of the Eta Model, both initialized from the NCEP-NCAR (National Centers for Environmental Prediction-National Center for Atmospheric Research) global

Journal of Money, Credit & Banking
; We study 30 vintages of FRB/US, the principal macro-model used by the Federal Reserve Board staff for forecasting and policy analysis. We document the surprisingly large and consequential changes in model properties that occurred during the period from July 1996 to November 2003 and compute optimal

A measurement-based behavioral model for I/Q RF modulators. (Technical Note).(radio frequency)
Microwave Journal
; ... box is used to describe a model whose structure is known, but the details are not. In this case, it is assumed that the model maps I/Q inputs to modulated RF outputs, and the model details the transfer function. In this model, the linear distortion effects ...
