Telstar 402R slotted for service by Dec. (1995)

AT&T's Telstar 402R is planned to enter service by Dec 1, 1995, following the settlement of a suit against satellite manufacturer Martin Marietta. The 402 satellite failed after launch, and broadcasters are counting on its replacement to alleviate the capacity deficit. AT&T settled out of court and all lawsuits surrounding the satellite failure have been dropped.
