A new study reports that alcoholism among men religious in the United States may be double that reported in a study done 13 years ago.
The report says religious houses provide settings where there are simultaneously a high percentage of recovery among alcoholics and a high level of denial of the problem among community superiors.
The report, to be released in May, was prepared by the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University. It concludes that 10.9 percent of religious priests and brothers and 2.6 percent of religious sisters are ...
