The Pherocon pepper weevil trap developed by two Agricultural Research Service entomologists is enabling pepper growers to minimize their losses. The pest, which costs the US pepper industry some $23 million annually in losses, is detected early by the Pherocon trap because its chemical mix mimics that of weevils feeding on peppers. The trap is marketed by Salinas, CA-based Trece Inc.
