Up to one-quarter of patients who are treated with angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors develop a persistent dry cough. Many patients stop taking the medication because of this side effect. Hargreaves and Benson examined the usefulness of inhaled cromolyn sodium in patients with dry cough caused by treatment with ACE inhibitors.
