The Celtic language of Cornish is spoken by about 300 people, mainly in Cornwall, England, Australia, and the United States. Closely related to Breton and Welsh, Cornish started to branch out from Welsh toward time end of the seventh century C.E. Three types of Cornish--Old Cornish, Middle or Medieval Cornish, and Modern Cornish--existed from 800 to the end of the nineteenth century, when it declined in use.
