Just what is going on in Hampton Roads these late summer days?

According to scientists and state experts, regional waters this month are suffering from an unusually heavy bout of large and persistent algae blooms. The culprits are hot weather and intense rainfalls that wash tons of fertilizers, sewage and other nutrients into streams, rivers and the Chesapeake Bay.
